The Economy
– I believe in the enduring strength of a free
market economy. Government can never tax and
spend itself into prosperity. We can restart our
economy by encouraging policies that diversify
our economy, promote entrepreneurship and
reinvest in our state. We must keep taxes low
and reduce burdensome government regulations.
Government
– I believe in constitutionally limited
government. We need state government to focus
efficiently on its core mission of quality
schools, public safety and protecting children
and seniors in need. Government must be
accountable for every dollar it collects and for
every dollar it spends- transparent and
accountable. Floridians are creative and
industrious and we must embrace market-based
solutions for the issues facing our state
instead of always looking to the government to
do everything. Individual responsibility is key.
Taxes
- We must cut taxes, not punish achievers.
Floridians work hard for the money they earn and
the government should not be in the business of
taking more and more out of people’s paychecks.
For the economy to truly thrive, citizens must
be allowed to keep the money they earn and use
it as they see fit. Small businesses should NOT
be regulated or taxed to the point where they
cannot employ people.
Quality Schools
– The educational system should be truly
student-oriented with individual responsibility
and accountability to equip our students to be
successful. There should be no tolerance for
mediocrity or failures in the educational
system. Teachers who perform well should be paid
well, but there should be no tenure. We must
continue the innovations that have been working
to improve our schools. Involved parents,
excellent teachers and classroom discipline are
key. We need to keep classrooms and learning as
the focus of our education dollars.
Healthcare –
We must make health care affordable and
accessible for all Floridians. Doctors and
patients need to make their health care
decisions without third party interference.
Insurance companies must not be allowed to
discriminate against individuals with medical
illnesses and we need better preventive care so
illnesses can be treated before they become
catastrophic problems. We must protect our most
vulnerable citizens- the elderly, the young, and
the disabled. We must not exhaust Medicare or
expand Medicaid entitlements.
Secure Borders
- The first and primary role of government is to
protect its citizens, and that means the border
must be secured. In a day and age when many
around the world seek to destroy America, we
must have the ability to know who is coming into
the United States. The inability of our federal
government to secure our borders has allowed
millions of people to cross unlawfully,
contributing to crime and increasing the demand
for, and cost of, social service programs
especially when state and local budgets are
stretched thin and American citizens are hurting
here at home. Illegal immigration must be
ended once and for all, and there should be no
amnesty.
Gun Rights
- I am a proud member of the
NRA.
The right to bear arms is central to
truly being a free people. The Second Amendment
not only guards the right to bear arms as a
means of protection, but also extends to those
who use firearms recreationally and for hunting.
You won’t get gun control by disarming
law-abiding citizens. To get real gun control:
Disarm the thugs and the criminals then lock
them up. People kill people; not guns.
Sanctity of Life
- “I am pro-life. As a state legislator, I would
support various pieces of pro-life legislation
that, among other things, would require doctors
to perform ultrasounds before performing
abortions and another bill that would ban the
use of taxpayer dollars to fund fetal tissue
stem cell research or abortion.”
Energy - We
need to explore and invest in alternative and
renewable energies as way of creating jobs,
moving toward energy independence and lessening
our environmental impact. So long as Florida
benefits in the process, we should also allow
offshore drilling under safe conditions.
Veterans Issues
– Simply thanking the Veterans for their service
is NOT enough. Too many of our heroes come home
to find themselves unemployed, without education
and healthcare benefits, and many are homeless.
This is tragic and needs to be addressed and
corrected by both the public and private
sectors. When Veterans return home, they deserve
the health care they fought for and earned; they
deserve to be given preference for jobs; they
deserve to be reacclimated into society not lost
in the criminal justice system. |
