08/26/09 I had the pleasure
to interview Dr. Bob McCann who is seeking
Florida House seat in District 67. Dr. McCann is
not only a physician but also a lawyer. He is a
conservative with excellent credentials. His
background in health care, legal issues, his
service in the U.S. Navy and understanding of
the issues makes him a formidable candidate. He
is in tune with the key issues facing Floridians
- healthcare, tort reform, and the economy.
Bob McCann is a native of Chicago and served in
the U.S. Navy from 1975 through 1979. After
completing his naval service, he attended
college on the G.I. Bill and went on to graduate
from medical school at Kirksville College of
Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri in
1988. While attending to his studies, Bob served
the public as both a paramedic and police
officer.
While practicing as a physician in undeserved
health service areas, Bob obtained his Juris
Doctor degree with Honors from the Florida
Coastal School of Law located in Jacksonville,
Florida in 1999. He is a member of the National
Republican Lawyers Association, the American Bar
Association, and the American Bar Association’s
Health Law Section.
Today, Bob McCann lives in Bradenton, Florida
with his wife Rosemarie. He owns and operates
McCann Medicine & Law, P.A. where he provides
medical care and legal services. He has had a
distinguished career within the medical
community, holding leadership positions and
serving as a guest lecturer at numerous
conferences. He was a candidate for both US
Surgeon General in 2001 and US Assistant
Secretary for Health in 2007.
Bob McCann was appointed to the Florida Board of
Osteopathic Medicine by Governor Jeb Bush, where
he now serves as Chairman. The Board of
Osteopathic Medicine is responsible for
enforcing health care standards, reviewing
licensure applications and disciplining
physicians when needed.
My interview with him revealed a man of
conviction and impeccable character. His parting
comment to me was that the two most important
things to him are his honesty and reputation.
Please take the time to listen to Dr. Bob McCann
and his positions on health care, the economy,
tort reform, off shore drilling and government
growth.
